Field soil testing

Field tests provide soil characteristics directly on site — in natural conditions of occurrence, moisture, density and depth. This data is used by designers to calculate foundations, assess settlement and select the foundation type. GeoProGlobal performs plate bearing tests, static and dynamic CPT and pressuremeter testing using its own equipment. We work under current GOST standards for construction, industrial, infrastructure and critical facilities.

Process

Stages and timelines

We manage the project end to end and deliver the full document package.

  1. 01Receive brief and site description

    We study the task, facility type, designer requirements, anticipated loads and site conditions.

  2. 02Select the testing programme

    We identify which methods are required: plate bearing, static CPT, dynamic probing, pressuremeter or a combination.

  3. 03Mobilise crew and equipment

    We arrange mobilisation of specialists and delivery of equipment to the site.

  4. 04Perform field tests

    We carry out measurements under the approved programme with recording of all parameters.

  5. 05Process the data

    We prepare calculations, graphs, protocols and the technical report.

  6. 06Deliver to the client

    We hand over materials for designers, expert review and further project work.

Questions about this service

How do field tests differ from laboratory tests?

Laboratory tests are carried out on collected samples, whereas field tests are performed directly on site in natural soil conditions. Field methods therefore give a more realistic picture of foundation behaviour under real loads.

When are plate bearing tests required?

When the designer needs a reliable soil deformation modulus for settlement calculations and foundation design. Especially important for critical facilities, soft soils and structures with high loads.

What is static CPT used for?

Static CPT provides a continuous profile of soil properties with depth, clarifies layer boundaries and provides data for pile foundation design.

When is dynamic probing used?

For dense, gravelly and coarse-grained soils where the static method may be limited.

What is a pressuremeter used for?

Determines soil characteristics at borehole depth where conventional plate bearing tests cannot be performed. Important for pile and piled-raft foundations.
